What's Going On At Beamish With The Friends?

Would you like to know more about what's happening behind the scenes at the Museum? It's possible to really enjoy your visits to Beamish simply walking around the site and taking in the setting and the historical presentations but there's even more behind the scenes.

Many of the items you see at the Museum have been restored by the Friends. And the work goes on. Some of the characters you see in period costume are Friend volunteers. Others help the Museum by carrying out visitor surveys or assist the staff in many other ways.

You can find out about projects, displays, meetings and volunteer opportunities involving the Friends of Beamish.

It's all in the FRIENDS NEWSLETTER Magazine.
and its FREE when you join the Friends.

Photograph: Friends Newsletter front cover.

Picture of a magazine front cover. It has a narrow purple band at the top and bottom and the text in purple "Friends of Beamish". The cover picture is a winter scene looking over the colliery village with a white band near the bottom with the words in purple "newsletter 134 Winter 2003".

The picture shows a light featureless sky across which at half height is a band distant trees. In front of these on the left is a row of six miners cottages. To the right a long large mine building. There are dark brown branches of a tree just visible at the right hand edge.

The lower half of the picture is a snow covered field with the small cylindrical shape of an air vent for the mine. There is also a small triangle at the bottom left corner where a road, a field fence and an indistinguishable vehicle can be seen.

The picture is a little blurred in detail but gives a good impression of what the Newsletter looks like. TEXT.
